Submit Abstract

The Conference Organising Committee invites you to submit an abstract to contribute to the inaugural conference 'Medical Bionics 2008 - a new paradigm for human health'. Abstracts for poster presentations on topics related to the Conference themes are now sought.

Abstracts should be identified as being focused on one of the following Conference themes:

The conference will examine the following themes:

• Overview of medical bionics: design, development & commercialisation;
• Smarter materials: intelligent polymers and nanotechnology in medical bionics;
• Smarter devices: the role of ICT in medical bionics;
• Neural interfaces for CNS and spinal cord stimulation;
• Neural interfaces for sensory information (including auditory prostheses and retinal prostheses);
• Cell based therapy: application in medical bionics;
• Surgical and ethical considerations for medical bionics; and
• Future directions in medical bionics.

Poster Presentations

Posters should be 1m wide and 1.5m high. Authors must attend their posters during the allocated time to answer questions. The poster should include author and co-authors' names, a short title, the name of the institution where the work was carried out, and the following sections: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusions and Recommendations. Graphical presentations are encouraged.

Please note there will be dedicated poster sessions and posters will be displayed in the poster area.

Abstracts must conform to the following requirements:

• include a short title (up to 20 words), and the authors' names (underline the presenting author)
• maximum 250 word length
• structured with the headings:
  1. Introduction
  2. Methods
  3. Results
  4. Conclusions
• include presenting author's contact details including institution, address, email, telephone and fax
• indicate the preferred presentation format (oral or poster)
• if submitting a short case study, please identify this in the title (i.e. "a case study of ...")
• submit your abstract >
• the abstract should describe original work not previously presented or published, and
• abstracts will be accepted until Friday, 26 September.

Please note: In submitting an abstract you confirm that you are the author of the materials or have used third party materials with acknowledgement of source and/or permission. You indemnify the Bionics Ear Institute and Consec ~ Conference Management in respect of any claim made by a third party arising out of a break of copyright by any of the materials presented by you.

Abstract Selection

The Conference Committee will review abstracts for suitability for presentation at the Conference, based on scientific validity and subject matter.

Authors will be advised in writing of acceptance or non-acceptance of abstracts by COB October 3, 2008. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Conference program/handbook.

All presenting authors must register and pay for their attendance at the Conference.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is Friday, 26 September. Early submission is encouraged.
