and Technology Conference Series

Medical Bionics - a new paradigm for human health

Online registration for the Conference is now available...

The Bionic Ear Institute is delighted to host the inaugural conference 'Medical Bionics - a new paradigm for human health'. This conference will bring together a wide range of eminent and early career researchers working in the diverse field of medical bionics. Although they will travel from all regions of the world and bring expertise from disciplines as diverse as biotechnology, engineering, ICT, polymer science, nanotechnology and medicine, there will be one aim that unites all those attending the conference - to search for solutions to the human health challenges of the future.

The conference will examine the following themes:

  • Overview of medical bionics: design, development & commercialisation;
  • Smarter materials: intelligent polymers and nanotechnology in medical bionics;
  • Smarter devices: the role of ICT in medical bionics;
  • Neural interfaces for CNS and spinal cord stimulation;
  • Neural interfaces for sensory information (including auditory prostheses and retinal prostheses);
  • Cell based therapy: application in medical bionics;
  • Surgical and ethical considerations for medical bionics; and
  • Future directions in medical bionics.

The Scientific Advisory Committee has assembled an exciting speaker program that includes eminent local and overseas invited speakers. One of the most distinct aspects of this meeting will be the great breadth of presentations, describing new and emerging disciplines that will help shape the development of medical bionics over the next two decades. Further, the meeting will provide inspiration and focus for the next generation of researchers in this field. This will be achieved through a strong emphasis on poster presentations, providing a valuable opportunity for new investigators to showcase their work and meet others working in their area of research.

The conference will be held in the beautiful coastal village of Lorne in south-western Victoria. Surrounded by the Otway National Park, Lorne is a key vista point along the famous Great Ocean Road. This idyllic village offers a relaxing environment to talk science, explore the local restaurants, go bushwalking or even try surfing!

Please join us in November for this exciting event.

Kind regards.
Rob Shepherd
Director of the Bionic Ear Institute & Conference Chair
